The incident occurred after a Juneteenth Peace Day event. The shooting followed a report of 50 young people about to fight near the playground. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office stated that a suspect indiscriminately fired a fully automatic or fully automatic converted weapon from the intersection of North 42nd and West Lloyd streets toward the park’s playground. Life-saving measures were performed, but the teen died at a hospital. The detective on the scene fired at the suspected shooter, who then fled and was later taken into custody. The injured teen is expected to survive. The event organizers had decided to end the Juneteenth Peace Day event early due to unruly attendees and multiple fights involving unsupervised youth12.
