Public not to illegally take cicadas from state park properties

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding the public not to illegally take cicadas from state park properties. State law prohibits capturing and removing animals, including insects, from state parks. While there are exceptions for hunting and fishing, cicadas are not included in those exceptions. The DNR’s park staff and wardens have been instructed to educate the public about cicadas in state parks, and enforcement action may be taken in response to violations12. If you encounter any cicada harvesting, you can report it using the DNR’s online violation hotline or by calling 1-800-847-9367. Let’s all protect these fascinating insects! 🌿🦗
